Chapter One is dedicated to transforming children’s futures through one-to-one reading support at the moment it matters most. Their mission is simple but powerful: to close the reading gap by providing personalised support at the very start of a child’s education journey.
Since September 2024, Tara Group has proudly partnered with Chapter One to deliver online reading support through the charity’s Online Reading Volunteers Programme.
During the 2024–25 academic year:
- Four Tara Group volunteers
- Supported four children at a primary school in Birmingham
- Delivered 41 one-to-one sessions
- Providing 17.1 hours of reading support
- Helping children improve by an average of 3.5 reading levels
These results reflect not only academic progress, but growing confidence and enjoyment of reading.
A quote from one of the teachers at the school “Children can never get enough reading and having Chapter One and the online reading volunteers in my classroom has really boosted my children's confidence and enjoyment of reading - they love it when the volunteers “ring in” and they’ve become really responsible at making sure our class laptop is up and running at the start of each day. Children build relationships with their volunteers and reading the comments they write about the sessions with children is great feedback for us as teachers.”
This partnership enables Tara Group employees to become positive reading role models in children’s lives. Through consistent weekly sessions, volunteers help build confidence, resilience and a lifelong love of reading.
