Our story

The Noel Sweeney Foundation was established in 2021 to honour the legacy and philanthropic work of Noel Sweeney, our Founder and Chair, who sadly passed away in 2020.  The Foundation is dedicated to supporting local communities, charities and projects where we can make a meaningful and lasting difference.

Noel was a true embodiment of philanthropy, always giving back to the communities he was part of.  He was deeply committed to improving the lives of others, and his passion for making a positive impact still remains at the heart of everything we do here at the Tara Group.

The Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees, who oversee its mission and ensure its charitable objectives are delivered with integrity and impact.

Noel and Carmel Sweeney.

Our origin

Born in Corrigeen, Ireland in 1943, Noel Sweeney was the second of eight children and grew up on a farm. In 1972, Noel left his home and moved to England with just £300 in his pocket.  He and his wife Carmel made the difficult decision to uproot their young family in order to seek better employment opportunities.

Noel soon found a job working on a building site in Birmingham and this was the start of his lifelong passion for housebuilding.

Recognising the road to prosperity was to run his own business, Noel set up Chasetown Civil Engineering in 1974, a business rooted in family values and a commitment to its’ people.

As the company grew, Noel expanded his vision with the creation of Cameron Homes, followed by Keon Homes in recent years. Together with Chasetown Civil Engineering, these companies form the Tara Group.

Throughout his life, Noel believed in the potential of people, always offering them opportunities to thrive and succeed. He was passionate about improving the environment, creating better opportunities, and paving the way for more sustainable communities.

Sadly, Noel passed away in 2020, but his entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to growth with compassion still lives on within the Tara Group.
