Birmingham Children's Hospital

Tara Group has been a proud supporter of Birmingham Children’s Hospital (BCH) for many years. Through a wide range of fundraising initiatives and volunteering activities, we have helped raise vital funds to ensure children receive exceptional care, enable pioneering research, and provide essential support to families during some of the most challenging times.

Below are just some of the ways our colleagues have supported the hospital:

  • “5 for 5” Anniversary Campaign
To mark Keon Homes’ 5th anniversary, we launched our “5 for 5” initiative—a fundraising campaign supporting five charities close to the hearts of the Sweeney family and Tara Group. As part of this, Charmaine Sweeney (Noel’s eldest daughter) partnered with BCH and courageously took on a Wing Walk challenge to raise vital funds.
  • Community Engagement at Derby County FC
A team of volunteers from across the Group supported BCH as bucket collectors during a Derby County home game, engaging with fans and raising awareness and donations.
  • End-to-End Motorbike Challenge
A colleague from Cameron Homes completed an incredible solo motorbike journey from John O’ Groats to Land’s End in support of the charity.
  • Dragon Boat Race 2025
Seventeen colleagues from Keon Homes took to the water in Birmingham’s canal, competing in the Dragon Boat Race near The Mailbox and raising funds through teamwork and determination.
  • Race the Plane 2026
Our cycling team went head-to-head with a passenger plane travelling from Birmingham Airport to Cancun in this unique endurance challenge. Cycling a combined 4,878 miles, they raised an outstanding £84,893 to support the transformation of the hospital’s Emergency Department—and proudly topped the leaderboard as the fastest team.

Becoming a Changemaker

More recently, Tara Group has joined Birmingham Children’s Hospital’s exclusive Changemakers Programme as an Associate member.

Launched in 2023, Changemakers brings together forward-thinking businesses and regional leaders committed to making a meaningful difference for young patients and their families. Through financial support and active collaboration, members help BCH invest in cutting-edge medical equipment and create more welcoming, child-friendly environments across the hospital.

Since its inception, the programme has developed a strong network of like-minded organisations, working together to support the hospital’s most important priorities. In its first year alone, members collectively contributed over £500,000, helping to fund the hospital’s £1.5 million iMRI Appeal—introducing its first intra-operative MRI scanner and transforming brain and epilepsy surgery outcomes.

As part of our involvement, we recently contributed to the 2026/2027 project selection process. From a £1 million fund:

£750,000 will be used to transform the hospital’s burns centre, enhancing facilities and freeing up critical care capacity.

£250,000 will fund a laser to complement the iMRI scanner, supporting the treatment of tumours and epilepsy.

We are incredibly proud to be part of the Changemakers Programme. It reflects our values and commitment to giving back to the communities where we live and work, while helping to drive life-changing care and innovation for children who need it most.

Volunteering and Giving Back

In addition to fundraising, our colleagues also regularly volunteer at the hospital, supporting initiatives such as the Art Cart programme. Through arts and crafts activities on the wards, our teams help create moments of joy and normality for children and their families during difficult times.

I don’t even have the words to describe how amazing every single one of the volunteers were…I knew it was going to be an amazing Art Kart when they gladly put on their Santa hats in October!!!!

A huge thank you to Beth and Oli for being their silliest for the kids who enjoyed every moment of it, especially all the stickers that Oli handed out and Beth’s ability to get the kids to come out of their shell.

Similarly to Niamh and Paul, who were absolutely brilliant, when a mum needed a shoulder and an ear, they were both there to listen and empower her. We also met a young girl that was quite anxious about her visit, and they did so well to change her entire experience…like I said yesterday, I might have Paul on standby for all volunteering with the kids because he was fantastic.

Kind Regards,
Amaan Yasin, Corporate Partnerships Officer
